Jan. 14 Noon CT | Grain Marketing for 2025 (Five Part Series) With Jessica Groskopf, Extension Agricultural Economist, and Cory Walters, Associate Professor, Agricultural Economics. The Center for Agricultural Profitability is pleased to announce the launch of a new webinar series, titled Grain Marketing for 2025, designed to equip farmers with the knowledge and strategies they need to succeed in today’s ever-changing grain market. The sessions are open to all farmers, agricultural professionals, and industry stakeholders. The Grain Marketing for 2025 series includes five sessions on every other Tuesday at noon CT, beginning Jan. 14. Participants are encouraged to attend each session. Each session will be led by Agricultural Economists Cory Walters and Jessica Groskopf, who will review and provide insights into managing important topics such as: World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE), Cost of Production, Seasonality and Price Patterns, Pre-harvest pricing strategies, and Crop Insurance contract decisions including SCO and ECO. NOTE: Registering will enroll you in each of of the five sessions, held every other Tuesday through March 11. |

Jan. 16 Noon CT | Nebraska Crop Production Cost Estimates for 2025 & Creating Your Own Budgets using ABC With Glennis McClure, Extension Farm and Ranch Management Analyst, UNL Center for Agricultural Profitability During this CAP webinar, an overview of the 2025 Nebraska Crop Budgets and current cost of production estimates will be provided. We’ll look at the key input cost figures used in the 2025 budgets and changes or trends over the last several years. With the 2025 Nebraska Crop Budgets available to download into the Agricultural Budget Calculator (ABC) program user accounts, the enterprise budgets can be modified for individual farms and fields. We’ll take a brief look at the analysis features built into the ABC program, including the risk module. |
Jan. 17 Noon CT | Self-Insurance for Farmers and Ranchers: Strategically Preparing for the Unexpected With Phil High (farmer), Nolan High (farmer), and Cory Walters, Associate Professor, Agricultural Economics, UNL. In this webinar, Dr. Cory Walters, associate professor of agricultural economics at UNL, will visit with Phil and Nolan High -- a father and son who farm in Nebraska -- that are facing the insurance premium/farm financial pinch. They are taking an innovative approach to insurance that allows them flexibility not available in the traditional insurance market. The webinar will discuss how self-insuring can offer benefits like cost savings, increased flexibility in financial planning, and better control over risk management. The underlying concept highlighted will be the role of insurance ‘captives’. The webinar will focus on how the Highs have approached the use of a insurance captive on their farm. |
Jan. 23 Noon CT | Pricing and Strategies of Weaned Calf Risk Protection With Elliott Dennis, Associate Professor and Livestock Economist, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and Shannon Sand, Agricultural Economist, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. USDA-RMA recently released a new federally subsidized insurance product called Weaned Calf Risk Protection (WCRP). In a previous webinar through the Center for Agricultural Profitability (CAP) we reviewed how the product works, reporting requirements, and indemnity payouts. On January 15th the USDA-RMA will release the projected prices for 2024 and premium rates by county for Nebraska, Colorado, South Dakota, and Texas. This webinar will focus on reviewing these rates, potential strategies consider, and trade-offs between different USDA-RMA insurance products based on the chosen strategy. |
Feb. 17 Noon CT | Agricultural Land Management Quarterly With Jim Jansen and Anastasia Meyer, Agricultural Economists, UNL Offered since 2019, the quarterly webinars address common management issues for Nebraska landowners, agricultural operators, and related stakeholders interested in the latest insight on trends in real estate, managing agricultural land and solutions for addressing challenges in the upcoming growing season. The February 2025 webinar will cover recent trends in Nebraska cash rental rates for 2024-2025, calculating cash rental rates to reflect market prices or farm yields, updating agricultural leases for the 2025 production season, and considerations for landlords and tenants entering the new growing season. Feb. 27 Noon CT | Generations United: Breaking Stereotypes and Fostering Communication With Leacey E. Brown, MS, South Dakota State University Extension Gerontology Field Specialist. Each of us is a member of a generational cohort used to describe groups of similarly aged people. People from the same generation are often depicted as sharing similar traits and characteristics, leading to the development of micro generations, like the Xennials or Generation Jones, when individuals do not match existing generations. This workshop will dispel common misconceptions about generations and explore how to communicate across the generations. |
