Small meat processing plant owners, managers and management-track employees from across the U.S. are invited to apply for Nebraska Extension’s next Small Meat Processing Management Training Program, scheduled for March 8–14, 2026, at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
The program is built around an intensive, in-person training experience, bringing participants to Lincoln for a full week of instruction, plant tours and applied learning. Participants will engage with industry experts and peers through hands-on sessions focused on operations, business management, workforce leadership, marketing and financial decision-making. Pre- and post-program meetings and a HACCP certification training are virtual components that will support and extend the in-person learning.
The program is offered by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability in partnership with the Department of Animal Science at Nebraska, the College of Business at Nebraska and the Nebraska Manufacturing Extension Partnership. The interdisciplinary program is designed to help small processors strengthen management capacity while navigating regulatory requirements, labor challenges and evolving market demands.
Up to two participants per plant may be accepted. Applications are due Jan. 25, 2026. The fee to participate is $1,498 per plant. Participants are responsible for travel to and from Lincoln as well as hotel expenses.
Processors who complete the full program may also be eligible for an on-site consulting visit, subject to availability.
More information and the application are available on the Center for Agricultural Profitability's website at cap.unl.edu/meatprocessing.
