Listen: Nebraska FARMcast
Michelle Garwood and Skylar Falter discuss how Buy Fresh Buy Local Nebraska supports farmers, ranchers, and food businesses by connecting consumers with Nebraska-grown food, expanding market visibility, and promoting local food systems statewide as it approacehs its 20th year.
The program supports farmers, ranchers, food businesses, and farmers markets across the state through marketing, promotion, and education aimed at making local food easier to find and understand. Core resources include the annual Buy Fresh Buy Local Food Guide, available in print and online, along with a searchable statewide directory that helps consumers connect directly with local producers and food businesses.
In the months ahead, Buy Fresh Buy Local Nebraska is preparing for its annual membership drive, scheduled to open in early January. Membership opportunities are available for farmers and ranchers, farmers markets, restaurants, retailers, and artisan food producers, with options to be listed online, in the printed Food Guide, or both. The program also offers sponsorship and advertising opportunities for businesses and organizations that want to support Nebraska’s local food system.
As interest in local food continues to evolve, Buy Fresh Buy Local Nebraska remains focused on shortening the food chain, increasing transparency, and expanding market opportunities that support the long-term viability of Nebraska’s family farms and ranches.
