The interdisciplinary Center for Agricultural Profitability is based in the Department of Agricultural Economics. It facilitates faculty research, conducts extension outreach related to agricultural profitability and farm and ranch management and trains undergraduate and graduate students — all to support informed decision-making in agriculture.

Communications Intern
POSITION TITLE Communications Assistant
POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assist the Center for Agricultural Profitability’s (CAP) Communications Specialist with writing and digital marketing projects. Examples of work include but are not limited to:

  • Create social media posts to promote CAP’s articles, events and resources to agricultural producers and professionals.
  • Assist with maintaining the Center’s website, including posting new content and organizing existing content.
  • Opportunities may also be available to assist with email marketing, graphic design, video and podcast production.
  • Write articles for the Center’s website that summarize CAP’s weekly webinars, generally geared toward helping agricultural producers with their business decisions.
  • Assist on special projects as assigned.
ESTIMATED HOURS PER WEEK 5-10
WAGE $15/hour
DURATION OF WORK Through the end of the 2024 spring semester, with an opportunity to continue in the position beyond that period.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS Enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, sophomore or higher, preferably in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Video and audio production, graphic design or social media/email marketing experience or coursework is a plus.
SCHEDULE Flexible, with some work able to be completed remotely. Weekly access to Filley Hall on East Campus during regular business hours is helpful.

Land Link Intern
POSITION TITLE Land Link Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Land Link Intern will expand the Nebraska Land Link program’s communications protocols, recruitment model, and data management systems. Our Intern will streamline the application process for land-seeking and land-owning program participants while also improving Land Link’s databases and analytics to track program reach, participant engagement, and the outcomes of land exchanges.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Review the current website.  Suggest website updates. Assist in website updates.
  • Assist in designing and executing a “County Extension” recruitment campaign. 
    • Update the “press toolkit” on the Land Link webpage.
    • Connect with County Extension Staff to promote the program at the local level.
  • Review the current application and matching process. Recommend solutions for matching challenges. Assist in implementation solutions.
  • Land Seeker/Landowner Education
    • Conduct a need assessment of educational needs for landowners and land seekers.
    • Analyze the assessment results and recommend a course of action.
    • Assist Land Link team in applying for grant funding to fund educational programs.
    • Work with CAP faculty to develop educational programming to meet Land Seeker and Landowner needs.
ESTIMATED HOURS PER WEEK 10 (Remote Work is an Option)
ESTIMATED WAGE $15/hour
DURATION OF WORK 1-2 semesters
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Sophomore+
  • Interest in agricultural economics, agricultural business, farm management, estate and transition planning, agricultural law, extension, or agricultural education.
  • Willingness to learn software: Microsoft Teams, Excel etc.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment.
  • Solid math and writing skills.

Risk Management Education and Policy Analysis Intern
POSITION TITLE Risk Management Education and Policy Analysis Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION This internship will support the work of the Center for Agricultural Profitability (CAP) and the North Central Extension Risk Management Education Center (NCERMEC) with a focus on economic and policy analysis, communication and event planning, and coordination and project management. The position will work with and report to Dr. Brad Lubben and will work closely with graduate students and staff working with agricultural policy research and education and risk management education.
ESTIMATED HOURS PER WEEK Up to 20
ESTIMATED WAGE $15+/hour (based on education/experience)
DURATION OF WORK The opportunity is available immediately and could continue for indefinitely before potential transition to other duties and opportunities. The position includes opportunities for extended employment, undergraduate research, and/or transition to graduate enrollment, research, and assistantship funding.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS Open to second-year students or beyond with exposure to agricultural economics principles. Experience with management and/or communications is a plus.
