Associate Professor, Grain Marketing and Crop Insurance
Filley Hall 304B

Dr. Walters' extension and research interests focus on the use of public (crop insurance and Farm Bill) and private (futures markets) risk management tools to manage farm income risk. He also investigates policy-important areas of federal crop insurance, fertilizer decisions, and environmental quality.

He received his Ph.D. in economics and masters in Agricultural Economics from Washington State University in 2008 and 2004, respectively.  He received a bachelor's of science in Agricultural Business from Montana State University in 2002.  Cory grew up on a grain farm Montana producing wheat, canola, barley, and peas.

From Dr. Walters:

I am interested in the individual and collective effects of publicly and privately provided risk management tools as well as the influence of technology on agricultural producers. My science-based extension program directly influences my publications, and my publications directly influence my extension program. My published work includes studies related to individual risk management benefits of crop insurance and hedging, market effects (farm numbers and farm size) of crop insurance premium subsidies, role of crop insurance premium subsidies, economics of roundup Ready 2 soybean seed.
